West Farleigh
- A tiny village but so many trees!
|
|
Here is the report from the Kent Men of the Trees for October 9th 2006.
As you can see our trees are judged to be doing well. |
|
Churchyard |
|
Very much as last years report. All but one yew have had ivy removed and
their trunks are clear. The Atlantic cedar has not recovered even if it
has had the suggested nitrogen. Take it down! More light and space for
the others. One cedar by the wall still has ivy climbing high. Mr.
Goodwin has had a depth of rubbish removed around one yew and it is
looking better. A Cyprus has ash suckers growing through it which need
digging up and the stock removed.
We support rough area but not brambles, nettles or elder choking the
trees. One millennium yew and the small Irish yew should be cleared at
the base.
The avenue of clipped yew had clean bases.
The field adjacent to the church had some really good groups of
cherries, fastigiated beech well cared for and with shelters. There was
a good planting within a triangle on roadside of pine and Ginkgo Biloba. |
|
Sportsfield |
|
Adjacent to Mr. Goodwin's fine trees. I agree with the 2005 report that
some young boundary trees are a bit tight to the fence, but I am sure
Mr. Goodwin has anticipated the demise of the mature trees and has
planted a fair area of field with well growing trees of various species. |
|
Court Lodge |
|
The original mature boundary trees have been interplanted and the belt
is dense but well for the time being. |
|
Charlton Lane |
|
Several young trees well spaced and secure within wall. Mature horse
chestnuts appeared free from disease, although affected by leaf miner. |
|
The Good Intent |
|
The stricken maple has survived the summer. The beech is well and will
make a fine tree. The M.O.T. lime is well and no longer needs a stake I
feel. Another tree or two could be accommodated here I think. |
|
Smiths Hill and on |
|
Superb fine trees can be viewed from afar. Ewell lane and Manor have a
fair share. The Handel oak on the way to the level crossing is very happy.
What a lot of gorgeous trees. West Farleigh is lucky to have Mr. Goodwin
to look after them. |
