WELCOME TO THE
WEST FARLEIGH PARISH WEBSITE

|
|
West Farleigh,
mentioned in the Doomsday Book, is situated 4 miles south west
of the centre of Maidstone on the south side of the River
Medway Valley. William Cobett pronounced the Medway Valley west of Maidstone the finest in England and West Farleigh bears testimony to that opinion. The village remains traditionally agricultural, has an unspoilt Norman church, a Village Green with excellent views and some fine houses including Smiths Hall which has been the setting for several films. |
|
The aim of this site is to provide a
base for some of the things happening around our village and to provide an easy reference for finding
out about local items of interest.
Inside this website you will find information about the
village, our history and about the local services, clubs and businesses
and has a thriving genealogy section. |
Ann Widdecombe -
www.widdecombepp.com
BBC2 is making a documentary with Ann Widdecombe, MP for Maidstone and the
Weald. The documentary is looking at ways politicians can re-engage voters
in politics. One of the ways they are looking at this is by giving people
more of a say in the things that affect their lives. As part of this the
BBC have set up a website with
Ann Widdecombe which aims to reach out to her constituents and give them a
say by voting online in what Ann does. She won't necessarily do exactly
what all her constituents want but will take on the views they express
when she decides how to act as an MP. She is also encouraging her
constituents to come up with petitions about issues that are close to
their hearts and that they would like her to take action on - this is also
being fostered by the
website.
The BBC reassure us that this is not a party political programme as they
are also working with the other political parties.
