FANCETT NAME ORIGIN

Steven James Fancett, who lives in Central Michigan, USA, would like some help on the origins of the Fancett family name. You can contact him here.

Stevens' great great great great grandfather, William Fancett, b 1845, d 1907, married Emily Winham, b 1852, d 1925, in Maidstone, England. They went America in December 1869, the same year they were married. Steven and Wendy would like to know if there are relatives of his family still in and around West Farleigh.

THE FANCETT FAMILY

I have been researching my Fancett family many years, any information or contact much appreciated. The following are extracts from West Farleigh parish registers that I have already researched:-

Births:-

1846 Jul 5    Mary Fancett, d/o Thomas F. and Jane (mn) Hickmott
1847 Aug 7  William Fancett, s/o Thomas F. and Jane (mn) Hickmott
1885 Feb 27  Thomas William Fancett, s/o William F. and Fanny Turley.

Marriages:-

1893 Nov 1   Emily Fancett & William Ledger, carpenter, age 25, s/o Thos. Wm. Ledger
1866 Oct 2   Mary Fancett 20 of W. Farleigh, d/o Thomas, and William Tidy 18 of E. Farleigh, s/o Stephen Tidy, farm bailiff.
1856 Mar -   Mary Ann Fancett 23, d/o Henry, lab., and George Seager, 21 of St. Leonards, s/o Thomas Seager, railway lab.
1880 Apr 17 Sarah Fancett of E. Farleigh, d/o Thomas, both full age, and William Nash, wid, of W. Farleigh, s/o Thomas Nash, lab.
1879 Feb 1  William Fancett, s/o Thomas Fancett, lab., both of W. Farleigh, and Frances Crayford, d/o John Crayford, lab.

Deaths:-

1858 Nov 26 Emily Fancett, age 2, of The Green, W. Farleigh
1895 Jul 10  Thomas Fancett, age 76, of W. Farleigh

I would like information of memorial inscriptions, issue of marriages, etc. It is a long way from Melbourne, Australia to Kent, and I hope to visit the UK again one day.

Thank you,
June A. Fancett

GOOD NEWS

Meg Gain has found a link between the Fancetts and her husband's family. Frances Crayford (Crayfourd) of West Farleigh, who was a daughter of John Crayford, married Thomas Fancett. These details have been passed onto June.
