I
am researching my family roots and from my father's memories and my research I
have found that Herbert Fairman, his wife Alice (Pattenden), lived in a cottage
above the old oil mill. The 1891 Census refers to the cottage as Tutsham
Cottage. Herbert was my grandfather and was a blacksmith. Earlier research
places the Fairmans in Ladingford and Yalding.
One
of my father's sisters (May) married a Harry Page, who worked in the cricket
ball factory in Teston, they lived just up the road from the factory. I would be
happy to receive any details from anyone who may have any connections with the
family.
