LOCAL SEARCH - ASHBY
|
From Helen Dailey - Hi there, I was
looking at the posts for the Ashby family in West Farleigh, Maidstone, Kent and
was delighted to find the downloadable document on the family. My great great
grandmother was also a child of WILLIAM ASHBY and JANE HUNT, MARY ASHBY, b. Apr
1839, West Farleigh, Maidstone, Kent; d. 11 May 1918, Hamilton, New Zealand. Her
and her husband James Winter came out to New Zealand in 1877 and had some of
their children with them, including Ann Elizabeth Winter who was born 1860 in
Yalding, Kent.
Ann Elizabeth married John Wright in 1880 and had a daughter May Wright born in
Hamilton, New Zealand 1881. May Wright married twice, first to a Mr Beange with
whom she had 4 children and then to my Grandfather Elijah Walter Dailey in 1916.
My father, born in Muriwai, Gisborne, New Zealand was the last of May's children
born in 1923. I am thrilled to finally have some more information about the
Ashby family so have filled in the gaps on my tree now. It's great that people
are posting all this information, it makes researching so much easier, and so
exciting!Kind regards, Helen Dailey. |

From Andrea Tozer - Hi, I think I have
connections to the same Ashby family in West Farleigh through my Mother-in-Law
who was an Ashby and still lives in Maidstone. I live in Loose so still not far
away. I have James and Sarah Ashby both born in 1780 in West Farleigh, their son
William, born 1803 in Mereworth, who married Jane Hunt. Then they have 12
children, all born in West Farleigh, among them William, born in 1833, and
George born in 1846. Kind regards, Andrea. Andrea has provided a 9 page
Word document with a lot of detail on it. You can download it
here. |

From
Peggy Ashby:- I am trying to trace my husband's ancestors who resided in
West Farleigh circa 1834.The parents were William and Jane with their children,
Henry, George, Ellen and possibly others, and they lived at the bottom of Kettle
Lane in West Farleigh. Any help would be most appreciated.
As a result of this search Teresa replied to Peggy - her great grandmother was
Sarah Ashby c.1852, and she lived at 2 Kettle Lane, West Farleigh in 1861 with
her mother Jane and siblings, Elizabeth and George. Her marriage certificate
stated that William Ashby (gardener) was her father. |
